In the Indian Premier League, cricket fans get to see more than one exciting match. The 18th season of the league is going to start from March 22, where fans will get to see many prickly matches. Super overs have also been played many times in the IPL. The super over is used when the score of both teams becomes equal. In such a situation, one over is played under the super over to get the result of the match. But there is not many special for the super over in the IPL.
By the year 2019, there was only one super over when the match was tied. If the super over was also tied, then the teams who hit more fours and sixes in the entire match were given victory. But now the super over is done until the result of the match is out. However, the BCCI has set a deadline for repeated super over matches. If the match of 20-20 overs ends on par, then a total of 1 hour time is given for the super over in the IPL.
That is, super overs can be played to decide the winner till one hour after the completion of the main match. But if super overs are also tie again and again, then umpire can stop the match after an hour. According to the rule, if the match referee feels that a period of 1 hour is going to be violated, then he will inform the captains which will be the last super over. If the result does not come out in the last super over, then the match will be finished at equal and the points will be distributed among the teams.
In the super over, both teams get to play one over. The team who bats in the second innings in the match, that team has to bat first in the super over. During this time, more than three players can bat for a team. But the innings ends as soon as 2 wickets fall. If the super over tie, then in the second super over, the team bats first which batting later in the first super over. At the same time, a batsman can bat in any super over, just he would not have left the ground without hurt.
In the super over, the bowling team chooses from which end they will bowl and the pitch remains. However, Ground Authority and IPL match referee can also decide to change the pitch. Apart from this, the umpires will stand at the same end at which they finished the match. At the same time, the bowling captain also gets a chance to choose the ball from the ball box and the same ball is used in all super over.
