A huge search has been launched for three women while travelling to a major tourist attraction, amid fears they were caught up .
Jiyeon Lee, 33, her mother Taehee Kim, 59, and aunt Junghee Kim, 54, were holidaying in the US and heading from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. However, the trio have not been heard from in ten days and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has launched a massive search. A fatal crash involving several vehicles happened on the day amid heavy and ice they were last heard from, with local police forces investigating if the women’s car was involved.

Coconino Sheriff said in an update on the search: “Jiyeon Lee, Taehee Kim, and Junghee Kim were last known to be traveling on vacation from the Grand Canyon area to Las Vegas on 03/13/2025. The family was traveling in a rental vehicle, a 2024 BMW CA license plate 9KHN768.
“Vehicle GPS information showed the rental vehicle was last on Interstate 40 westbound at approximately 1527 hours on 03/13/2025. Law enforcement is aware of the large multi vehicle accident that occurred on the 140 on this day, however it is not known if this vehicle was involved in the accident.
“Anyone who has had contact with this family since 03-13-2025 or has knowledge of their whereabouts is requested to contact CCSC with any information.”
The fatal crash on the day the women vanished involved 22 cars in the massive pile up. Several of the vehicles involved were burnt beyond recognition, raising fears theirs was involved and it is yet to be known.
Arizona’s Department of Public Safety posted on X the aftermath of the serious collision. It said: “These are the devastating results of the weather-related fatal collision on I-40 near Williams yesterday, March 13, 2025. Unfortunately, troopers are currently investigating another deadly weather-related collision on I-40 near Holbrook.
“First responders are working hard to assist those in need, clear the roadways, and keep motorists safe. Please do your part to keep our roads safe for everyone.
“If you find yourself caught on the road during a winter storm a few things you can do to stay safe [include] reduce your speed and brake/accelerate with caution, leave extra following distance between vehicles, turn on your lights and turn off cruise control.”
