Radio star Andy Porter has marked his last day at the channel after 24 years, as he shared his relief he will no longer have to set an early alarm while showing his 4am wake up time to fans. The news presenter has and in advance of his departure, his colleague Clare Runacres joked he could no longer "tamper" with her news stories. She posted an image of her script in which he had changed the ontro to "Hi, I'm runners" and quipped: "This is the last time @adam1uk tampers with my news - he has a habit of amending my name! (It's his final day at the BBC tomorrow)."

On Friday (March 28) Andy shared her post to his stories along with some updates of his own. He posted the image of his alarm set for 4am and captioned it: "Last day at work tomorrow so it is the last day I will have to set this alarm." He also posted an image as he entered the iconic BBC Broadcasting House captioned: "Final day 6:20". Finally he posted an image of his desk with his computer fired up for work on which he wrote: "Final day: 6:56" and tagged BBC 6music.

Taking to Instagram he wrote: "After 24 years at the , I have decided to take voluntary redundancy and will be leaving towards the end of March. I've loved working in the Radio Newsroom and being on Radio 2 and 6Music.

"I've worked with fantastic colleagues both in the newsroom and on air, and I've been there for some really big stories.

"But now is the time to move on to new waters. Stay tuned for plenty of boating content!"

While having a clear out at home, came across this dot-matrix printed IRN script from 2 April 1995. I was working at Wessex FM and had filed a report about a bomb disposal which had taken place.

Adam graduated from Birmingham City University with a PG Dip Broadcast Journalism before joining Wessex fm as a Broadcast Journalistin 1994.

He moved to Wessex FM in 1996 were he undertook the role of News Editor before joining the BBC in January 2001.

In his 24 years 3 months with the channel he has written news for Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 6Music. Meanwhile his voice has been heard across Radio 2 and 6Music and he frequently presented the news on the Breakfast Show.

Upon her departure from the station he paid tribute saying: "All that really needs to be said is that she is the most amazing colleague and friend, and it's been an honour and a pleasure to have worked with her."
