A stunning coastal walk takes hikers past sandy beaches and pretty villages.

The trail from Porth Dinllaen to Porth Ysgaden is part of the Wales Coast Path, the first dedicated coast path in the world to cover the entire length of a country's coastline.

The route is 15 miles, covering the northwest coast of the Llyn Peninsula. It passes Morfa Nefyn, Porth Ysglaig, Penllech, and Methlem.

It has a varied rocky coastline with numerous coves and beaches to explore. While most of these coves have minor roads and a house or two, they never grew like those in Pembrokeshire, and so you won't find a pub in any of them.

Around the headland is the unusual sight of a single gable end of a ruined cottage, and the coast path brings you to the former port of Porth Ysgaden.

The coast here is higher and more rugged than the first section, with the rocky coves of Porth Gwylan and Porth Ychain providing a couple of opportunities to get close to the sea on their shingle beaches.

Along the route, there are a handful of cafes and a few pubs, but these are few and far between along the first leg. The walk in total is said to take five hours at a brisk walk.

The remoteness of the Llyn Peninsula, called the Arm of Snowdon, has lent the area an unspoilt image which has made it a popular destination for tourists and nature lovers.

It is also an Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, with the chance to go seal spotting, explore villages and museums, or enjoy a day at the beach

The Wales Coast Path runs through eleven national nature reserves and other nature reserves such as those managed by the RSPB and The Wildlife Trusts.

Launched in 2012, the footpath is 870 miles and a long-distance trail from Chester in Cheshire to Chepstow in Monmouthshire.
