SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) has hit a rough patch with three losses in a row, leaving them with a lot to think about as the IPL season heats up. Last year’s finalists have struggled this time around, and their once-powerful batting line-up collapsed for just 120 runs while chasing 201 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Former cricketer Virender Sehwag couldn’t hide his surprise at SRH’s poor performance, especially since the pitch didn’t offer much for bowlers. He pointed out how SRH’s current struggles remind him of the Punjab Kings’ past issues.
Punjab used to trip themselves up, and now it seems like Hyderabad has taken that role. They scored 190 and lost, then around 160 and lost again, and now couldn’t chase down 200, Sehwag told Cricbuzz. He noted, KKR’s bowling wasn’t anything special and the pitch wasn’t tough. They got 200, and there wasn’t much turn or help for bowlers. It was just a bit slow, but you can deal with that if you settle in.
Sehwag also mentioned how SRH is slowly losing their fun reputation in cricket. Hyderabad has been disappointing. With so many batters, nobody was able to score, and they got bowled out for 120. Fans came to see a show. Sure, the game was in Kolkata, but Hyderabad has a name for being entertaining, and that just wasn’t the case today, he said.
SRH started their season strong, taking down the Rajasthan Royals, and the whole team seemed in great spirits. But things took a turn after they lost to Lucknow Super Giants, which continued with a tough match against Delhi Capitals, and then KKR handed them an 80-run defeat.
Despite the setbacks, SRH’s bowling coach James Franklin is hopeful the batting lineup will bounce back. They’re gearing up to face the Gujarat Titans at home on Sunday, April 6.
