New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court of India formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Supreme Court of Nepal, aimed at enhancing judicial collaboration between the two nations.
According to a statement released by the Supreme Court, this MoU is designed to facilitate the exchange of information regarding recent advancements in law and justice, while also fostering interactions among judges and officials through various initiatives, including exchange visits and training programs.
The agreement is rooted in the friendly relations shared by the two countries and seeks to bolster cooperation between their judicial systems.
Acknowledging the critical role of technology in reducing case backlogs and improving court efficiency, the MoU includes provisions for sharing technological insights utilized in their respective judicial institutions.
To implement this agreement, a Joint Working Group will be established, comprising officials from both judiciaries to devise strategies for enhancing judicial cooperation.
The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Justice of Nepal Prakash Man Singh Raut and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.
Previously, the Indian government and its Supreme Court have entered into similar agreements with other nations, including Israel, Singapore, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.
