Chocolate fans are in for a real treat as have made the world's largest egg - and it's a huge Creme Egg. The chocolatiers have been busy in the factory ahead of Easter as the iconic brand has made history with the supersized egg.

Standing at 3ft-tall, the Easter creation made at Cadbury HQ in Bournville Birmingham is roughly the height of an emperor penguin. The egg is also decorated and painted with the Creme's Egg's recognisable purple, gold and red foil wrapper and is also filled with the same gooey fondant used in regular Creme Eggs, and the sweet treat weighs in at a whopping 45kg (7st 1lbs) - the average weight of a newborn horse and it took chocolatiers Terry Collins and Dawn Jenks over two-and-a-half days to make the whole egg by hand.

While people may be sceptical about the huge egg, Cadbury's can proudly say it is entirely real, and is on display at Cadbury's World for chocolate lovers to see for themselves. But for those hoping to get a taste, Terry and Dawn confirmed no one will get to eat it, despite Terry confessing he was "tempted during creation" to have a little nibble."

He told Radio 5 Live: "Here at Cadbury World we normally do creations for each season and we were just thinking 'what better way to celebrate Easter than something as iconic as a Creme Egg?' and we figured 'we've got to go [as] massive as we can with it'."

When they were asked why it was so heavy, Terry replied: "That would be just purely down to the amount of chocolate we used and fondant. To actually make the egg we've had to have a mould, which we've got two sides of, and then we have to build up the chocolate by hand to make sure that the egg actually stays intact."

While Dawn added: "We challenged ourselves to create something unique and memorable this Easter. Replicating the much-loved Cadbury Creme Egg on an extra-large scale was an ambitious project, and it has been so rewarding to see the vision brought to life." The egg is on display at Cadbury World's chocolate-making zone until 27 April - it's not one to be missed!

World's largest chocolate egg

While the huge Creme Egg is Cadbury's biggest ever egg, according to the Guinness World Records, the world's largest Easter egg was made in 2011. The tallest chocolate Easter egg measured 10.39 m (34 ft 1.05 in) in height and was made by Tosca (Italy). It was measured at Le Acciaierie Shopping Centre, in Cortenuova, Italy on 16 April 2011. The chocolate Easter egg weighed 7,200 kg (15,873) and had a circumference of 19.6 m (64 ft 3.65 in) at its widest point.

World's largest decorated egg

The world's largest traditional painted Easter egg was recorded in the German-influenced town of Pomerode. It holds one of the biggest Easter festivals in Brazil called Osterfest. In 2022, the town revealed an Easter egg 15.05 meters (49.4 feet) tall and over 8.72 meters (28.6 feet) wide - nearly five stories tall. The egg is covered in traditional Bauernmalerei (a folk painting style) and it’s both a tourist attraction and a cultural statement.
