Significance of Hanuman Jayanti
Hanuman Jayanti, also known as Hanuman Janmotsav, is said to be the day Lord Hanuman was born to Anjani and Kesari. It is said that with the blessings of Vayu Dev, the God of Wind, Lord Hanuman was born, and thus he is called ‘Pavan Putra’ or the son of wind.
As Lord Hanuman’s life went on, he quickly became a symbol of mischief, strength, devotion, loyalty, and of course, resilience.
Be it the stories from his childhood where he tried to eat the sun, or his heroics from the Ramayan, Lord Hanuman is an important part of the epics. He helped Lord Ram rescue Mata Sita from Ravan, burned down Lanka, carried an entire mountain to save Lakshman, and so much more. And soon he became the symbol of selfless service and dedication.

And today, devotees look up to Lord Hanuman not just as a God, but also as a Guru who can teach and help them realise infinite things in life. He is a protector and guide and people who chant the Hanuman Chalisa daily notice how it instilled a sense of courage, peace, and protection in them.
And from all of these qualities, he is also called ‘Bajranbali’, Maruti Nandan, Anjaneya, Pavan Putra, and more.
Today, when people organise a paath of Ramcharitamans, or anything dedicated to Lord Ram, they keep a seat vacant in the front for Lord Hanuman, because it is said that Lord Hanuman is present everywhere, especially in places where the name of his lord is being taken.
How is Hanuman Jayanti celebrated?
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated and observed around India, and even abroad, by devotees who worship Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram.

People visit temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman, wake up early to chant and pray to him, they offer him flowers, oil, sweets, boondi, and more, and also perform havans to invite his energy into their homes.
In the temples, there are bhajans, Hanuman Chalisa paath, Sundarkand paath, and much more to appease Lord Hanuman.
Some devotees also keep a full day fast as a mark of respect to Lord Hanuman, and eat only fruits or drink water and milk through the day, breaking their fast the next day.
In homes where Lord Hanuman is worshipped, people also play the Hanuman paath, Bajrang Baan, Hanuman Chalisa, the Panchmukhi Hanuman kavacham, and more.
And parents tell their children the heroics of Lord Hanuman, from the time he burned down Lanka in order to save Maa Sita and show Ravan how Lord Ram was ready to take him on, to the time he saved Lord Ram and Lakshman from Ahiravan and his black magic by using his Panchmukhi avatar.
