During a two-day official visit to Slovakia, President Droupadi Murmu received the Doctorate Honoris Causa degree from the Constantine the Philosopher University on Thursday (local time).

The University granted President Murmu the honorary degree in appreciation of her work in public service and governance, her support of social justice and inclusion, her contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and the preservation and advancement of cultural and linguistic diversity, according to a post by the President’s Secretariat on X.

In addition, the president thanked the institution for the honour, emphasising how education helps to lessen social injustices.

At a ceremony in Nitra, Slovakia, President Droupadi Murmu received an Honoris Causa Doctorate from Constantine the Philosopher University. The University was praised by the President for this honour. President Murmu received the degree from the university in recognition of her outstanding career in public service and government, her support of social justice and inclusiveness, her work in education, women’s empowerment, and the preservation and advancement of linguistic and cultural variety. The President’s Secretariat posted on X, highlighting the significance of education: “The President said that education neutralises societal inequities, ensuring that the benefits of growth reach even the most marginalised.”

“I am extremely honoured to be here in the historic city of Nitra and to receive this prestigious Honorary Doctorate from Constantine The Philosopher University,” President Murmu stated during the occasion. This award is being given to a nation and civilisation that has shown peace and knowledge throughout history.

“Education serves as a tool for both national growth and personal empowerment. India has made education the focal point of its national development plan in recognition of this. She said, “Indian philosophical traditions have long shaped the intellectual and spiritual fabric of our society, just as Saint Constantine Cyril’s work laid the foundation for Slavic linguistic and cultural identity.”

The degree was given in honour of President Murmu’s career and services in a number of fields, including as public service and education, the Ministry of External Affairs also said on X.

“A unique distinction in Slovakia! The Constantine the Philosopher University in Slovakia awarded President Droupadi Murmu the Doctorate Honoris Causa degree. President Murmu’s outstanding career in public service and government, his support of social justice and inclusivity, and his contributions to women’s empowerment, education, and the preservation and advancement of cultural and linguistic variety are all honoured by this title, MEA said.

At the request of Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini, President Murmu travelled to Slovakia. It is the first time in 29 years that an Indian president has visited Slovakia. After finishing the first part of her trip in Portugal, she reached Slovakia.
