Mumbai: Mumbaikars will be able to use a single pass to travel across various modes of public transportation available in the city through the upcoming ‘Mumbai One’ card. The integrated travel pass will be launched after a month and will cover the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the government’s plans to launch the ‘Mumbai One’ smart card to streamline public transportation in the city. The final decision about the integrated smart card was announced on Friday after the union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav reviewed the onboarding of railways.

Mumbai One card will allow daily commuters and visitors to access all modes of transport in MMR including the suburban railway, metro rail, mono rail and BEST buses with a single integrated card, instead of different tickets for each mode. The architecture for the transport facility will be prepared in a month after which the state government will officially launch the card.

Fadnavis claimed that the smart card will be a game-changer for seamless travel across the MMR region. “This card will give an end-to-end connectivity to Mumbaikars, revolutionising the way Mumbai travels. The railway’s role was the most important among all other transportation modes and I would like to thank the union railway minster for giving all the necessary permissions,” he added.

The 'Mumbai One' card is part of the state government's broader effort to modernise urban transport and offer seamless connectivity across various services. Once fully operational, the card is expected to simplify the commuting experience for lakhs of daily passengers and reduce the dependence on cash or multiple apps and tokens.

Notably, The Free Press Journal had reported about the plan of an integrated travelling pass for Mumbai in September 2024. Sagnik Chaudhary, the deputy director general and regional director of west & central India at Ministry of Tourism, had mentioned the plan of making Mumbai the first Indian city to have an integrated pass for accessing all modes of transport and tourist destinations within the city, in an exclusive interaction.
