Dia Mirza and Mohit Raina starrer ZEE5 web series Kaafir, which had released in 2019, is now transformed into a movie on the same platform.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Dia Mirza shared her thoughts on this change saying, 'When I first heard that Kaafir was being adapted into a film, I was genuinely excited. The web series had already touched so many hearts, and the transition to a film felt like an opportunity to make the story accessible to more people. The beauty of cinema is how it condenses stories, making them more immersive, more intense.'

Dia revealed that Kaafir was originally always intended to be a film. 'Interestingly, the story was originally written as a feature film! When it remained unmade for many years, the story finally breathed to life as a series. Bhavani Iyer, the writer, once told me that perhaps the story was waiting for me. All I know is that I had waited many years for a story like this to find me! Nothing makes me happier than to know Kaafir is being watched and loved over and over again,' she said.

Speaking about its theme, Dia said that Kaafir is strongly relevant currently. 'Especially in today's world where division and conflict are so prevalent,' she said. 'The film brings a human element to complex issues like cross-border tensions, human rights, and the emotional costs of these conflicts.

I think the film sparks conversations about empathy, about understanding each other's pain, and about the need for compassion in the face of adversity. By telling Kainaaz's story, we're reminding people that behind every conflict, there are real lives, real human beings with their own stories to tell.'

Throwing light on the core message of the film, Dia added, 'I believe Kaafir connects with people because, at its heart, it's a universal story of love, loss, and survival. It transcends borders and speaks to the core of humanity. I think audiences are drawn to the emotional depth and the authenticity of the characters and storytelling. It's visually, emotionally and physically compelling. My hope is that the film encourages people to look beyond their differences, to realize that peace and compassion are the only ways forward.

And that love, in all its forms, can be a transformative force.'
