The incident began in the ninth over when Head smashed Maxwell for two consecutive sixes on the third and fourth deliveries. On the fifth, Maxwell delivered a full, tossed-up arm ball aimed at the leg stump. Head moved to the leg side but got cramped for room and could only push it back to the bowler. Maxwell quickly collected the ball and hurled it towards wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, while also appearing to say something to Head.

Though the words weren’t heard, Head responded with a few unkind ones of his own. Even after the over ended, the argument between the two continued.
