In response to Punjab’s formidable 245/6, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came out all guns blazing and took the score to 83/0 in the powerplay. Sharma broke free from a lean patch and was in top form and brought up his half-century in just 19 balls. With the score at 109/0, pressure mounted on the Punjab bowlers as they searched desperately for a breakthrough. Amid that tension, tempers flared when Glenn Maxwell lost his cool with Travis Head, which led to a heated exchange.
The incident began in the ninth over when Head smashed Maxwell for two consecutive sixes on the third and fourth deliveries. On the fifth, Maxwell delivered a full, tossed-up arm ball aimed at the leg stump. Head moved to the leg side but got cramped for room and could only push it back to the bowler. Maxwell quickly collected the ball and hurled it towards wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, while also appearing to say something to Head.
Though the words weren’t heard, Head responded with a few unkind ones of his own. Even after the over ended, the argument between the two continued. Fellow Aussie Marcus Stoinis stepped in to calm things down, though Head reportedly had a few words for him too. The Twitterverse was quick to react, watching the drama unfold as tensions between the Australian teammates boiled over on IPL turf.
