Arsenal will host the reigning champion Real Madrid in a heavyweight Champions League 2024-25 quarterfinals clash at the Emirates Stadium in London on Tuesday (Wednesday, IST 12:30 A.M.)
While Arsenal qualified after hammering PSV Eindhoven (Agg. 9-3) in the pre-quarterfinals, Real Madrid qualified after defeating Atletico Madrid in the penalties, in the pre-quarterfinals.
Both the teams will look to continue with their winning momentum. Real becomes an unstoppable force, cometh the champions league and Arsenal will be well aware of that.
Both the sides have been in fine form throughout the seasons and are currently in contention for the title in their respective domestic leagues.
What happened the last time Arsenal and Real Madrid met?
Arsenal and Real Madrid have played only twice against each other at the Champions League, with the gunners emerging victorious in their Pre-quarter finals clash way back in 2005-06.
Thierry Henry scored the sole goal in the second leg, leading to Arsenal’s victory in the round of 16. Arsenal went on to reach the finals that season, only to emerge as the runners-up losing to Barcelona.
However, it’s been 19 years since this happened, and players won’t have this record on their minds. The teams are completely different with both possessing quality players in their squad. While Real would hope for its superstars in form of Mbappe and Bellingham to fire, Arsenal would be hoping for the same from Saka and Rice.
It will be very interesting to see which way the match pans out, with the two evenly matched teams facing each other. The football fans are surely in for a treat.
