What did SC Admin Department say

The administrative department of the Supreme Court has said that the bungalow number five from Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud should be evacuated without any delay. The extended period of permission given to him to stay in this bungalow has ended on 21 May 2025. Apart from this, the period provided under Rule 3B of 2022 Rules has also been expired till 10 May 2025.

In a letter sent by the Supreme Court to the Central Government, it has been said that DY Chandrachud is now living in type VIII bungalow instead of the type VII category that can be allocated under the rules, which is permission only to the CJI serving.

According to Rule 3B, any retired Chief Justice can keep only type VII housing for six months. Chandrachud wrote a letter to outgoing CJI Justice Sanjeev Khanna in December 2024 seeking permission to keep the bungalow till 30 April 2025, which was given to him.
