Cuddalore,Tamil Nadu: In a tragic accident, a speeding train collided with a school van at an unmanned railway crossing in Chemmanguppam near Cuddalore on Tuesday. Two people were killed, and several others, including schoolchildren, sustained serious injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the van was attempting to cross the tracks when it was struck by a train heading towards Chidambaram. Locals allege that the railway gate was not closed at the time, leading to the collision. Eyewitnesses said the impact was severe, leaving the van badly mangled.
The injured, including young students, were rushed to a nearby government hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties, but sources say multiple children are in critical condition.
Railway and police officials have launched an investigation into the incident. Questions are being raised about safety measures at unmanned crossings, with demands for stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This is a developing story. Further updates are awaited.
