Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, September 3, inaugurated the first batch of Indiramma houses in Telangana’s Bendalapadu village of Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
In Bhadradri Kothagudem district, 312 Indiramma houses have been sanctioned. Of these, 238 belonged to the Koya tribe community.
The chief minister took part in the housewarming ceremony of three houses. The remaining are under various stages of construction.
Addressing a public meeting in Damarcharla mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that under the reign of former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2014, 25 lakh Indiramma houses were constructed, but during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government between 2014 and 2023, injustice was meted out to the poor with regarding to housing.
He recalled the challenge he threw to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (BRS) during his election campaign in Khammam in 2023, that he would seek votes only in the villages where Indiramma houses were constructed, and dared KCR to do the same, only where 2bhk houses were constructed by him.
“There could be a village without a temple, but I can say for sure that there is not a single village in the state where there was no Indiramma house constructed in the past,” he claimed.
He said that performing the house warming ceremony of Naikpod Ramanamma in Bendalapadu village gave him such happiness which he had experienced during the house warming ceremony of his own house in Jubilee Hills.
Addressing the gathering, housing minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy remembered how the houses in Vasalamarri village near KCR’s farmhouse were demolished to facilitate widening of the road leading to his farmhouse, with the latter also adopting that village.
“He even asked a 95-year-old woman when he called the villagers for lunch, what she wanted. She replied and said she wanted a house, as she lost her house in the road-widening. Not a single house was constructed in Vasalamarri,” Ponguleti said.
