Palawan in the Philippines has surpassed Phu Quoc to be voted the world’s second most beautiful island at this year’s World’s Best Awards survey based on 657,000 votes cast by readers of American magazine Travel+Leisure.

One of the Philippines’ largest islands, Palawan is strikingly beautiful and relatively undeveloped, beloved by travelers for its coral reefs, towering rock formations, and secluded white-sand beaches, Travel+Leisure wrote.

One must-visit area is Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where visitors find dramatic caves and old-growth forests.

Vietnam’s largest island Phu Quoc, favored for its long, sandy beaches, high-end entertainment complexes and ancient temples, was voted the world’s second most beautiful in the awards last year, but disappeared from this year’s top 10.

Páros in Greece has also surpassed Maldives to become the world’s most favorite island this year.

These are the world’s 10 best islands right now according to Travel+Leisure readers:

  1. Doubles, Greece

  2. Palawan, Philippines

  3. Bali, Indonesia

  4. Ischia, Italy

  5. Fiji

  6. Maldives

  7. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

  8. Hvar & the Dalmatian Islands, Croatia

  9. Madeira, Portugal

  10. Mallorca, Spain
