UEFA have revealed the official Arsenal squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign. The second season of the new league phase system has got some even more brand new rule changes which would have suited the Gunners greatly last season.
The higher the placement in the league phase table at the end of the eight matches gives you the advantage of facing your knockout round opponents in your home stadium in the second leg should you have finished higher than them in the rankings. This would have meant last season Arsenal facing both Real Madrid and PSG at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg, instead they had to travel to Madrid and Paris due to the luck of a draw.
Arsenal were down to their last legs toward the end of the season having suffered 27 separate injuries to players. They went into the semi-final with midfielder Mikel Merino as their centre-forward and Jakub Kiwior in place of Gabriel Magalhaes.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were both out for the second half of the season, Jurrien Timber started, but later admitted he was carrying a problem, like fellow right-back Ben White, who could only make the bench. Riccardo Calafiori returned to the bench after his own issues, and Martin Odegaard started despite limping off in the previous match.
Jesus has not been included in the squad according to the official website. Whether this gives an indiciation as to his return remains to be seen.
Therefore, the summer has been busy for the new sporting director Andrea Berta. Despite already losing Havertz, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Christian Norgaard, White, and Odegaard to injuries this season, the club looks in much better shape from a depth perspective.
Arsenal have been given a solid draw and will face Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Olympiacos, and FC Kairat at the Emirates Stadium. They must also travel to Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Slavia Praha, and Athletic Club.
It ranks as the third easiest draw for any of the 36 sides involved in the competition, and there will be confidence of finishing high up on the table. The squad list, therefore, will not come as a surprise that all eight signings have been included.
Max Dowman has also been registered, and the 15-year-old would become the youngest ever Champions League player should he feature in the opening matches, taking the record from Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund, who was 16 years and 18 days old when he made his first appearance.
He will have to take a spot on Arsenal’s ‘A’ list in the Champions League, which has a maximum of 25 places. Eight of these must be for ‘locally trained players’. When Dowman turns 16 in December, he will be able to move to list ‘B’ for the knockout rounds.
Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly would not need to be registered until they turn 21 and can be included on list ‘B’.
