Lando Norris wrapped up his maiden Drivers' Championship title despite failing to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Max Verstappen took the chequered flag but was denied a fifth successive triumph due to Norris finishing third, behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri. It marks the first time a British driver has won the end-of-season honours since Lewis Hamilton last prevailed in 2020.

It was a relatively straightforward race in the end despite Norris losing a position to Piastri on the opening lap. He also escaped a penalty following a move on Yuki Tsunoda, when the Red Bull driver was himself punished for forcing his rival off the track. Norris only needed to finish on the podium to clinch the title and did exactly that, sparking wild celebrations on his side of the McLaren garage.
