Ranchi/New Delhi. The Supreme Court has given a big and important decision in the illegal stone mining case in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. The court has rejected the Jharkhand government’s plea to stay the CBI investigation in this case and has upheld the High Court order. Now the investigation of this alleged scam of more than Rs 1500 crore will continue by the CBI.

The Supreme Court clarified that the orders for CBI investigation given by the Jharkhand High Court are completely legal and the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the state government has no merit. The court has also expressed displeasure over the tendency to obstruct the investigation.

Reacting to this decision, BJP State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi called it a “big blow” to the Hemant government. He said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren made every effort to save people close to him—Pankaj Mishra, Vishnu Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Bachchu Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Subhash Mandal—but the judiciary stood by the truth and thwarted the government’s efforts.

Marandi alleged that pressure was put on the petitioner to withdraw the complaint, attempts were made to intimidate the common people, but all this did not work in the court. He said that this decision of the Supreme Court will prove to be the “last nail in the coffin of the corrupt Hemant government” and will further strengthen the trust of the general public in democratic institutions.
