A Love Island star has revealed he has finally ditched his eight-year snus addiction after becoming increasingly worried about his health. Dejon Noel-Williams admitted he had been hooked on the tobacco pouches for almost a decade, using them more than ever since leaving the villa.
The 27-year-old footballer, who left the show with girlfriend Megan Moore, said the habit had spiralled as he tried to adjust to fame and new pressures. Snus, the teabag-style nicotine pouches placed between the gum and lip, has surged in popularity across Britain and is widely used in football, including by some Premier League players.
But yesterday, Dejon, from Watford, said the pouches were making him feel sick and he had finally decided enough was enough, as reported by NeedToKnow. Dejon Noel-Williams said: “I looked at the people around me, I’ve looked at myself, I’ve looked at myself mentally, I’ve looked at myself physically.
“Since adjusting now to my new life, I’ve been indulging it even more. I guess I’ve been using it kind of like an escape. Just to help me get away from things or not really processing some feelings.
“I might just put one in instead to like kind of numb the thoughts in that moment. And I found myself doing it way more frequent than I ever done it before. So for the first time in eight years I’m going to stop doing snus.
“Snus actually makes me feel sick when I do it, but I still do it, so it’s weird. It’s the only thing I’ll say that I’m actually addicted to and I don’t want to be addicted to anything. It’s quite a new thing, there’s no, like real long term effects yet.
“Don’t quote me on that but from what I could see, I couldn’t find any, apart from obviously bad ones like gum disease and things like that, which, yeah, your boy don’t want gum disease anyway. So, yeah this is day one of no snus.”
