Kolkata: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, announced on Monday that the final electoral roll will not be available until after February 21. Efforts are underway to finalize it by the end of this month.
The Supreme Court has granted an extension of one week beyond February 14 for the review of documents submitted by individuals affected by the electoral process, acknowledging that this task may require additional time for electoral registration officers (EROs) to make informed decisions.
"We aim to publish the final voter list by February 28, but it will not be ready before February 21," Agarwal stated during a media briefing.
Regarding the revision process, he reported that hearings have concluded for approximately 1.39 crore cases, with documents uploaded for around 1.06 crore cases.
Agarwal also mentioned that the state government has designated 8,505 Group-B officers to assist with election duties.
"These officers will begin their roles tomorrow. Following two days of training, they will receive their login credentials within five to seven days," he added.
On the topic of grievance redressal, the CEO explained, "Once the final voter list is published, if a voter's name is missing, they can submit an application to the District Election Officer within five days. If the DEO does not address the application, the voter can escalate the matter to the state CEO within the following five days."
