Co-op has made a major change to one of its popular deals in stores, revealing that it now costs £2.50 per person. The supermarket chain has upgraded its pizza and ice cream bargain bundle, giving an attractive discount to members. Pairing its premium 'Irresistible' pizza with a full-size tub of Häagen-Dazs ice cream for £5, costs just £2.50 per person when shared by two - saving close to £7.

The deal includes one Irresistible Pizza and a tub of Häagen-Dazs ice cream, which is normally priced at £11.95 when bought separately. However, Co-op members have to act fast, as the deal is only available until May 5. While members get the larger discount, non-members pay £6.00, which saves them up to £5.95. Co-op is one of several supermarkets in the UK that offer such dinner deals, along with Tesco and Marks and Spencer.

Our usual Stonebaked Pizza and ice cream offer is already a fan-favourite bundle buy, and to be introducing our restaurant-style pizzas into the deal, with Haagen Dazs, means that Members and customers can enjoy a premium night in for the fraction of the cost of a premium night out."

The Co-op Group is currently plotting a takeover of Southern Co-op in a move that would add hundreds of food and funeral outlets to the retail giant's portfolio. The two societies have announced proposals that would require member approval before proceeding.

Ben Stimson, Southern Co-op's chief executive, said the deal would safeguard the future of the business, which has recently struggled with declining profits and rising costs.

He said: "By coming together, we can secure the co-operative future of Southern Co-op as part of a stronger combined Co-op Group, whilst creating an even stronger voice nationally and internationally to advance the co-operative cause."
