IISc Bengaluru has decided to introduce three new B.Tech courses. Admission to these programs will be granted based on JEE Advanced scores; let’s explore the details.
Ranked among the country’s premier science institutions, IISc Bengaluru has announced significant news for students. There will now be even more opportunities to pursue engineering studies at the institute. Starting in 2026, IISc is set to launch three new B.Tech programs. Admission to these courses will be determined by JEE Advanced scores, and seat allocation will be conducted through JoSAA counseling.
These are the three new B.Tech programs:
B.Tech in Materials Science and Engineering
B.Tech in Mechanics and Computing
B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering
A Strong Foundation in the Initial Semesters
These three courses have been designed to ensure that students build a robust foundation right from the very beginning. The curriculum places a special emphasis not merely on textbook learning, but on conceptual understanding, experimentation, and computer-based methodologies. According to the institute, students will be taught core subjects in engineering, mathematics, and computation during the initial semesters. In essence, a foundational base will be established early on to facilitate advanced studies and enable students to comprehend and tackle complex problems.
Existing Courses Currently Offered
Bachelor of Science (Research)
B.Tech (Mathematics and Computing)
The Kind of Engineers IISc Aims to Produce
With the addition of these three new courses, students will now have an even wider array of options to choose from. Notably, IISc is renowned for its excellence in research and quality education; consequently, graduates from the institute are highly sought after—both within India and internationally. The institute states that the objective of these courses is to cultivate engineers capable of anticipating and addressing future requirements—engineers who can engage in research, innovate new technologies, and devise solutions to problems facing both the nation and the world at large.
These programs will integrate science, engineering, and computational tools into a cohesive curriculum. This approach aims to foster the simultaneous development of students’ analytical capabilities, proficiency in computational tasks, and practical skills.
How to Secure Admission
To gain admission to these new B.Tech courses, aspiring students must qualify in the JEE Advanced 2026 examination. Subsequently, seat allotment will take place through the JoSAA 2026 counseling process. Admission is granted to IITs and other premier engineering institutes.
When will the examination be held?
This year, IIT Roorkee is organizing JEE Advanced 2026. The date for the examination has been scheduled for May 17. To appear for JEE Advanced, a candidate must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the BE/B.Tech paper of JEE Main 2026.
Candidates appearing for the exam must have been born on or after October 1, 2001. Age relaxation is provided to students belonging to reserved categories. JEE Advanced can be attempted a maximum of two times, in two consecutive years. Furthermore, the candidate must have appeared for their Class 12 examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026. It is mandatory to have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects in Class 12.
