The younger son of Samajwadi Party founder and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Prateek Yadav, passed away under suspicious circumstances in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. He was just 38 years old. This incident has sent shockwaves through both political and social communities. Initial reports indicate that the exact cause of his death remains unclear, although there are suspicions of poisoning. Authorities, including the police and medical department, are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to hospital sources, Prateek was brought to the Civil Hospital in Lucknow around 6 AM, transported by Aman Singh Bisht, brother of BJP leader Aparna Yadav. Medical staff declared him dead upon arrival. Dr. D.C. Pandey, the chief medical officer at the hospital, stated that his pulse had ceased, and his heart had stopped functioning by the time he reached the facility. The actual cause of death will be confirmed following the autopsy report.
The body has been sent to King George Medical University for an autopsy, where a team led by Dr. Mausami Singh is conducting the examination. An X-ray of the chest was also performed prior to the autopsy. A heavy police presence was maintained outside the mortuary, with Aman Singh Bisht also present. Authorities have sealed Prateek Yadav's bedroom and confiscated his mobile phone and laptop, which is considered a significant step in the investigation. Sources suggest that his death was not ordinary, as his fingernails had turned blue, raising further suspicions.
Reports indicate that Prateek had experienced health issues previously. He was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow on April 30 but returned home three days later without formal discharge after showing some improvement. Additionally, he had been hospitalized in November of the previous year, although details about his illness were not publicly disclosed at that time.
Despite being part of a prominent political family, Prateek Yadav stayed away from active politics. He was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhana Gupta, and had studied at the University of Leeds in the UK. He was involved in the fitness and real estate sectors, owning a gym named Fitness Planet in Lucknow. He also founded an organization called Jeev Aashray, dedicated to rescuing, treating, and caring for stray dogs.
Prateek Yadav married BJP leader Aparna Yadav in December 2011 in Saifai, Etawah, a wedding that garnered significant attention and featured many notable guests. The couple met at a birthday party in 2001, leading to their relationship. They have two daughters together. Earlier this year, there were reports of marital discord when Prateek publicly mentioned seeking a divorce. However, the couple reconciled within nine days, sharing a message of resolution on social media in February, and later celebrated their daughter's birthday together.
Following Prateek Yadav's death, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav expressed profound sorrow. Exiting the mortuary, he remarked that Prateek was a hardworking individual who aspired to achieve success through his efforts. Akhilesh also noted that sometimes business and financial losses can deeply affect individuals. His comments have sparked discussions regarding economic and business pressures. He mentioned that legal action would be considered if necessary.
Meanwhile, several political figures, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have also expressed their condolences over Prateek Yadav's demise. Currently, all eyes are on the autopsy report and police investigation, which are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
