During the meeting, President Murmu said that the shared Buddhist heritage between India and Myanmar and the age-old people-to-people connect provide special warmth to the friendship between the two countries. “Myanmar plays an important role between India and South-East Asia and is considered India’s gateway to South-East Asia,” he said.
The President noted the long-standing historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
Earlier, President Hlaing met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. During this, PM Modi said that India is committed to strengthening cooperation and partnership with its neighboring countries. Myanmar has a special role in India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policy. There is continuous progress between the two countries in the fields of trade, connectivity, capacity building, security cooperation and development projects.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that India is ready to provide all kinds of help in taking forward the process of peace and dialogue in Myanmar. He also talked about sharing experiences of federal governance system and economic development.
This visit of Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing to India is considered important in giving new momentum to the relations between the two countries. It is believed that this visit will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote regional peace, stability and economic development.
