The IPL 2026 season might be finished ,but how it goes, people are already talking about who goes where next. And one of the big ones, like really big, is Hardik Pandya. His future with Mumbai Indians is being tossed around everywhere, almost like it’s already decided or something
As per the latest reports, Kolkata Knight Riders are showing interest in having the India all rounder in their squad ahead of IPL 2027. The talk is that KKR could even look at Hardik as a captain option, if they decide to move on from Ajinkya Rahane
KKR Looking Beyond Ajinkya Rahane
KKR had a rough IPL 2026, and they didn’t get the outcomes they were hoping for. Naturally, questions came up about how the team is being led, and now it sounds like management is thinking about other choices too
Hardik Pandya is coming up again and again as a prime possibility, mostly because of his captaincy experience, and also because of what he achieved with Gujarat Titans earlier
The reports suggest KKR folks have already been speaking with Mumbai Indians about a potential switch. The idea, as it’s being described, is basically planning long term, and wanting a captain who can stick around for a while to steer the team
A source close to the development said:
"Ajinkya Rahane was always a stop-gap arrangement for KKR, and he was always going to be released after this season. The KKR top brass had approached MI owners towards the end of last season, but since Reliance's annual AGM was around the corner, at that time IPL trade wasn't the biggest priority."
Discussions Between KKR And MI, keep rolling
The same report also mentions that talks between the two franchises have continued for a few months now. KKR are said to be serious, they’ve apparently even done multiple rounds of conversation with Mumbai Indians
The source added:
"However, it has been learned that KKR has again approached MI's top leadership, and there have been a few rounds of discussion."
Right now though, there’s nothing official from either side. Still, these rumours are already making fans pretty excited for the next season

Trade Deal Could Be The Easiest Path
If Mumbai Indians agree to release Hardik Pandya, then a trade could end up being the cleanest way to make it happen
IPL rules allow player exchanges if both franchises agree to the terms. So KKR could either put a player forward, or go for a cash based arrangement
At the moment nobody knows which KKR player could be part of any swap. No names have been discussed openly, and negotiations are still being described as early days
Hardik stays one of the most valuable all rounders around, especially for white ball cricket. So any deal involving him would likely rank among the biggest recent IPL shake ups
No Official Word Yet, despite everything
Even with all these whispers growing, there is still no formal understanding between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders
There are also rumours that tie Hardik to other franchises, Rajasthan Royals included. But so far, none of it has shown solid proof
For now, Hardik is still officially a Mumbai Indians player. But since the behind the scenes trade talk is reportedly ongoing, his next move will probably remain one of the most watched storylines before IPL 2027
