The much-anticipated international debut of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been postponed once more, as he was not included in India's playing XI for the second T20I against Ireland at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on June 28.

After suffering a 34-run defeat in the first match, the Indian management opted for changes in hopes of leveling the series and avoiding a whitewash. Captain Shreyas Iyer announced at the toss that Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge would be making their international debuts, replacing Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar.

Iyer confirmed, "We’ve made two changes. Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav are in, both making their debut."

Sooryavanshi's Absence from the Squad

Despite the excitement surrounding his potential debut, Sooryavanshi's name was again missing from the playing XI, prolonging the wait for his first international appearance. As the youngest member of the squad, he was expected to debut following a record-breaking IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals.

High Hopes and Disappointment

Upon arriving in Ireland, the anticipation among the Indian community was palpable, with MV Narasimha Rao noting that additional seating was needed at the venue due to overwhelming interest.

Tickets sold out quickly, reflecting the excitement for Sooryavanshi's debut. However, the team management chose to maintain the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, leaving many fans disappointed.

The absence of Sooryavanshi was met with criticism, as many believed he should have been included in the lineup after the team's loss.

Fans Express Frustration on Social Media

The decision to exclude Sooryavanshi has ignited a wave of reactions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where fans voiced their disappointment.

Critics of the management's conservative approach argued that the young talent deserved a chance, while others accused them of 'gatekeeping' a promising player.

Many fans had purchased tickets hoping to see Sooryavanshi play, questioning why two uncapped players were selected over him despite his impressive IPL performance.

Looking Ahead

As the series against Ireland concludes, Sooryavanshi and Team India will head to England for the T20I segment of the white-ball series. Fans are eager to see if the teenage sensation will finally get the opportunity to represent India.
