There was an uproar in the politics of West Bengal when Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Nagendra Rai, also known as Anant Maharaj, made a controversial statement regarding Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Azad Hind Fauj. After this statement came to light, there was huge anger across the state, as a result of which the West Bengal government took a very strict and prompt step and withdrew the prestigious 'Banga Vibhushan' state award given to MP Anant Maharaj in the month of February this year with immediate effect. In the order issued by the state government, it was made clear that such comments of the MP are completely contrary to the dignity, prestige and basic spirit of this highest state honour, hence it is canceled with immediate effect. This action has created a stir in the political circles and it is being discussed everywhere that those who play with the honor of national heroes will no longer be spared. Zero tolerance policy of the government on insulting Netaji: After this objectionable comment made against Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the state government has expressed its strict intention that insulting the great freedom fighters of the country on the sacred soil of Bengal will not be tolerated at any cost. The government has completely adopted the policy of 'zero tolerance' in this matter and has directed the police administration to take strictest legal action under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) against anyone who tries to tarnish the image of national heroes directly or through social media. The Chief Minister bluntly said that those who disrespected an immortal fighter like Netaji should apologize in front of the public and the arm of the law is equally long for all. What is the whole controversy and why is politics heated? This whole controversy erupted when BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Anant Maharaj, during a media interview, gave a very controversial statement questioning the historical role of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Azad Hind Fauj, in which he said objectionable things about Netaji. After this statement of Anant Maharaj, who hails from Cooch Behar region of North Bengal and is considered a big leader of Rajbanshi community, sharp reactions started on social media also. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, a delegation of North Bengal MLAs met the Chief Minister and requested to protect the honor of the national hero. However, rejecting all the allegations being made by the opposition parties, the government has also announced that 'Netaji Subhash Seva Kendra' will be established in every assembly constituency of the state so that the new generation can be connected with his sacrifice.
