While talking to a media channel, Mukesh Khanna said that he had earlier also demanded to make 'Vande Mataram' the national anthem. He believes that this song is deeply connected to India's spirit of independence and patriotism. He also mentioned its popular singing and described it as a song to the sentiments of the country.

Claimed on 'Jan-Gan-Mana'

Mukesh Khanna also expressed his opinion on the history of 'Jana-Gana-Mana'. He said that this song was written in praise of the British rulers, hence it should not get the status of national anthem. However, this historical claim is controversial. Rabindranath Tagore composed 'Jana-Gana-Mana' and its first stanza was accepted as the national anthem of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1950.

Modi government also mentioned

The actor also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government in his statement. He said that efforts are being made to give more prominence to 'Vande Mataram' in schools and various programs. However, no official decision has been taken to make 'Vande Mataram' the national anthem by replacing 'Jana-Gana-Mana'.

Mukesh Khanna told that he has recorded about seven-minute version of 'Vande Mataram' together with Kalyanji-Anandji. Apart from this, his new song 'Aao Bachchan' dedicated to the freedom fighters has also been released, sung by singer Shaan.
