IND vs SL: The play started after a long wait due to rain on the second day of the first Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. The match resumed after a delay of about four and a half hours and the Indian team maintained its strong position. India has scored 442 runs at the loss of 7 wickets during the third session on the second day.
The biggest feature of the Indian innings was the brilliant batting of Devdutt Padikkal. He played an excellent inning of 167 runs and played an important role in taking the team towards a big score. Padikkal faced 230 balls and hit 15 fours and one six in his innings.
Padikkal was stumped by Sri Lankan spin bowler Prabhat Jayasuriya. Padikkal was trying to play a shot by moving forward on Jayasuriya’s fast and flat ball, but he missed the ball and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella stumped him without making any mistake.
Earlier, among the Indian batsmen, KL Rahul played an important inning of 82 runs, while Rishabh Pant was out after scoring 39 runs. Ravindra Jadeja returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs. Dhruv Jurel also made a useful contribution and scored 51 runs.
In the second session of the second day, the Sri Lankan bowlers made a comeback and took three important wickets of India. However, innings from Padikkal and Jurel kept the Indian score in a strong position.
Ravindra Jadeja was given out LBW by Keshara Nuwantha. Jadeja took a review against the umpire’s decision, but the ball was seen hitting the leg stump and the decision was upheld due to the umpire’s call. Jadeja was out after scoring 13 runs in 25 balls. This was Nuwantha’s third wicket in the match.
Till the tea break of the second day, India’s score was 364 runs for 5 wickets. Later the team crossed the 400-run mark. At present Manav Suthar and Mohammad Siraj are present at the crease. Due to ill health of Australian umpire Rod Tucker during the match, he did not officiate in the third session. In his place, reserve umpire Ravindra Wimalasiri took charge on the field.
