New Delhi: Commercial ship off the coast of Oman MV Cape Dao An Indian sailor died in the attack. The ship was heading towards India when it was targeted. The Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs have confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. With the help of Omani authorities, the crew members on board the ship have been evacuated safely.

Foreign Ministry condemned the attack

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued a statement on social media platform X condemning the attack on MV Cape Dao. The ministry said that an Indian citizen has died in this incident which took place near the eastern coast of Oman.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Indian Embassy is in constant touch with the Omani authorities and coordination is being done to ensure the safe repatriation of the Indian sailors. India has also thanked the Omani authorities for their cooperation.

India worried about attacks on commercial ships

The Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the targeting of commercial shipping in the region. India reiterated its call for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and quickly restore peace in the region.

India said the targeting of commercial ships, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must stop. Besides, an appeal has been made to quickly restore movement and trade on international waterways without any hindrance.

Death of Suraj Yadav of Deoria

Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI) has identified the deceased Indian sailor from Uttar Pradesh. Deoria resident Suraj Yadav As is done. According to reports, Suraj Yadav was working as a wiper on the ship.

According to FSUI, there were a total of 28 crew members on board the ship, of which 20 were Indians. The Union claimed that the ship was hit by two torpedoes, one hitting C-deck on the port side and the other hitting part of the engine room. However, the Indian Embassy has informed that there are 19 Indian citizens on board the ship.

Omani Navy evacuated the crew safely

According to Oman Observer, a ship of the Royal Navy of Oman carried out a relief and rescue operation. 27 crew members evacuated safely. Necessary medical aid was also given to all. According to the report, 19 Indians were involved and one crew member died in the attack.

The Indian Embassy is in constant touch with Omani authorities after the incident. The family of the deceased sailor is also being contacted.
