Gangtok:

A major landslide triggered by continuous rainfall has damaged several houses and government quarters in Rimbi village in West Sikkim, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.

The landslide occurred amid continued heavy rain and sent large quantities of mud, rocks and debris into inhabited areas. Several residential structures and government properties were damaged, while connectivity in the region was also affected.

No casualties had been reported in the incident, according to officials. The district administration has launched a detailed damage assessment and deployed teams from the disaster management, roads and bridges, revenue and other departments.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said the situation remained serious and directed officials to closely monitor developments and take necessary measures to protect residents, particularly as further rainfall could increase the risk of landslides.
