India has made a new record of sixes in the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies. The third and last match of the series is being played on Saturday, October 3 at the PCA International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. India scored 351 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. For the team, KL Rahul played a brilliant inning of 129 unbeaten runs, while Rohit Sharma scored 92 and Rituraj Gaikwad scored 59 runs.


In this match, Indian batsmen hit a lot of sixes. In the third ODI, a total of 17 sixes were hit from the bat of Team India. KL Rahul hit 6 sixes during his unbeaten century innings. Whereas Rituraj Gaikwad hit 4 sixes, Rohit Sharma hit 3 and Naman Dheer and Anshul Kamboj hit 2 sixes each. The special thing about this match being played in New Chandigarh is that it is the first ODI match played on this ground.


England’s old record broken

After hitting 17 sixes in the third match, India’s total number of sixes in this series became 45. With this, India broke England’s record of hitting most sixes in a three-match ODI series. England had hit a total of 37 sixes in the three-match series on the India tour in March 2021. Now India has left this figure far behind with 45 sixes. Not only this, it has also become a record for India hitting the most number of sixes in any bilateral ODI series.


Australia has the biggest record

Australia currently holds the world record for hitting the most number of sixes in a bilateral ODI series. Australia had hit 66 sixes in the six-match series against India in 2013. West Indies also hit 66 sixes in the five-match home series against England in 2019. Talking about India, Rohit Sharma is leading in this series with 12 sixes. Virat Kohli has hit 10 sixes, Shubman Gill has hit 9 and KL Rahul has hit 6 sixes.
