New Delhi: Food safety regulator has issued notices to and Nestle Health Science, Flipkart, Amazon and three other entities over allegedly misleading advertising and health claims for GLP+, a nutrition product marketed on ecommerce platforms.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said the product was advertised as providing high-protein support for preserving lean muscle during GLP-1/GIP therapies, commonly used in weight-loss treatment.

FSSAI said claims such as 'helps maintain lean muscle', 'support muscle strength' and 'preserve lean mass' suggested the product could help prevent muscle loss during weight reduction and GLP-1/GIP therapy.

FSSAI also found that the brand name 'Celevida GLP+', together with the promotional claims, created a misleading association with these therapies. It said a disclaimer clarifying that GLP+ was only a brand name was insufficient to address the overall impression.

The regulator also questioned claims describing the product as 'complete daily nourishment' and 'dependable nutrition in every serving', saying these could suggest it was a complete nutrition product or meal replacement. Other claims flagged included 'Imported from Europe for purity' and 'Contains 100% RDA BCAA'. FSSAI said European origin did not establish superior purity while BCAA claim was ambiguous and misleading.

FSSAI has directed the food businesses to discontinue use of term '100%' on food labels, packaging and promotional material. It has also asked them to show cause why action should not be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the relevant regulations.
