India 4th T20I of west indies against at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad marked an important personal milestone, although the result was a disappointing one for the hosts. The five-match series is now level as the visitors won by 24 runs, but India's young opener Abhishek Sharma entered the record books with another maximum. Although he could not make significant contributions with the bat, the left-handed batsman achieved a remarkable feat in the shorter format, highlighting his aggressive approach.

Abhishek Sharma overtakes Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is

Abhishek entered the Hyderabad encounter having made his mark as one of India's most aggressive batsmen in T20 Internationals. However, the fourth encounter proved challenging for the opener, who struggled to find his usual rhythm while chasing a strong target. The left-hander scored 29 runs off 24 balls, a relatively restrained innings by his standards. His opening partner, Sanjeev Samsonwas in excellent form at the other end, scoring runs quickly and putting pressure on the West Indies bowling attack.

Abhishek had to wait for his 15th ball to cross the boundary for the first time. However, that six proved significant beyond the immediate context of the innings, giving him the opportunity to set a new standard among batsmen representing Full Member nations in men's T20 Internationals.

With his only six against the West Indies, Abhishek took his tally of sixes in T20 Internationals to 69 in 2026, making him the most number of sixes hit by former Indian captain Suryakumar YadavIshan Kishan is ahead of him in the list, having scored 1,128 runs in 33 matches. Both the Indian batsmen currently occupy the top two positions in the list of highest run-scorers in T20 Internationals in 2026.

Expectations from Abhishek to continue his excellent form

Abhishek's campaign has not been entirely smooth. He had an average performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, but has otherwise maintained impressive scoring figures throughout the year. His performance against West Indies also highlights the disconnect between individual milestones and immediate team results. India needed 248 runs to win in Hyderabad, but Abhishek's 29 could not provide the vital contribution that was required to maintain the chase.

He is currently India's third-highest run-scorer in the ongoing series against West Indies, with 139 runs in four matches. After India's defeat leaves the series level at 2-2, Abhishek will look to rediscover his aggression in the decider. His latest record cements his reputation as a prolific six-hitting batsman, but a decisive contribution in the final encounter of the series would be equally valuable for India.
