Hisar : A day after the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) granted a 25-year power distribution licence to a private company for Gurgaon and Nuh , electricity employees staged a protest in Hisar on Tuesday, and burnt the effigies of the Haryana CM, Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar and HERC chairman.

Demanding withdrawal of the licence, the All Haryana Power Corporation Workers Union has threatened a statewide strike from Oct 22 to 24.

Union state president Suresh Rathi alleged that granting distribution licence to Eleven Power Pvt Ltd could adversely affect the interests of employees and consumers. He said electricity workers, farmers, and labourers would jointly oppose the move.

Rathi said protests and effigy burning were held at district headquarters and power circle offices across Haryana. He added that employees would gather at more than 300 power sub-divisions across the state on Oct 21 to burn copies of the govt communication and the draft licence.

The agitation will be coordinated through the joint action committee of electricity employees and engineers, he said. Rathi claimed that the govt had not invited the union for talks so far and warned that the protest would continue until the licence was revoked.
