LUCKNOW: US President Donald Trump may adopt a more pragmatic and politically cautious approach after facing electoral setbacks and criticism over his domestic and foreign policy decisions, creating fresh opportunities for India, political strategist and poll predictor Vimal Singh has said.

Shift Towards A More Measured Politics

Singh said Trump, long viewed as an uncompromising leader unwilling to accommodate political opposition, could now be forced to recalibrate his approach.

"After recent setbacks and criticism, Trump may realise the need for a more balanced and politically refined strategy. We could see a more cautious version of Trump in the coming years," he said.

Immigration Policy May Become Less Restrictive

According to Singh, the Indian-American community could emerge as an important factor in Trump's political calculations. He said the US President may adopt a more measured stance on immigration and visa-related issues affecting Indians as he seeks to broaden support.

"The uncertainty surrounding immigration rules has created anxiety among Indians living and working in the US. Trump may have to balance immigration enforcement with the contribution Indians make to the American economy," he said.

India Could Benefit From Investor Confidence

Singh argued that uncertainty generated by Trump's economic and trade policies has encouraged investors and members of the Indian diaspora to look more closely at opportunities in India.

"There is a growing realisation among overseas Indians that they should invest in their home country. India's economic potential, consumption base and investment opportunities continue to attract attention," he said.

He added that India's large consumer market and sustained domestic demand make it an attractive destination for long-term investment.

Caution On AI Hype

Singh also flagged the possibility of a correction in the enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks, particularly in the United States.

While acknowledging AI's transformative potential, he said investors may increasingly scrutinise valuations, profitability and the actual economic returns generated by the technology.
