In a world that often tests our limits, Ravi Raj’s story stands as a powerful testament to determination and love. The 24-year-old from Nawada district, Bihar, defied all odds to secure an All India 182nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024, despite being blind. His victory is not just his own, but a triumph of the indomitable spirit of his mother, Vibha, who helped him realize his dream of becoming an IAS officer.

A Life Altered by Blindness, But Not Defeated

At just 16, when Ravi was in the 10th standard, a disease took away his eyesight. But instead of letting this setback define his life, Ravi turned his passion for studies into the fuel that drove him forward. He completed his education in Nawada, and after graduation, he set his sights on the UPSC exam, even though this was his fourth attempt.

Ravi’s Unyielding Will to Become an IAS

In addition to his challenges, Ravi had already cleared the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam in November 2024 and was selected as a Revenue Officer. But his dream was bigger. He refused to take the job, knowing his true calling was to become an IAS officer. Three failed attempts didn’t deter him; they were lessons that pushed him to improve. His relentless pursuit, despite facing adversity, led him to finally conquer UPSC in his fourth attempt.

The Unsung Hero—His Mother’s Dedication

The backbone of Ravi's success story is his mother Vibha. A graduate herself, she took on the monumental task of making notes, reading aloud, and helping Ravi understand complex concepts. With every lecture, every answer, and every word written, Ravi and his mother created a process of learning tailored to his needs. His mother’s role wasn’t just as a supporter, but as a co-pilot in his educational journey.

A Bond Built on Determination

Ravi’s day would begin with 10 hours of focused study, with his mother guiding him every step of the way. While cooking, Vibha would play YouTube lectures, and then they would discuss the material, recording Ravi’s answers as he spoke. Their bond, formed through their dedication and perseverance, turned every challenge into a victory.

A New Beginning: From Adversity to IAS

Ravi Raj’s story proves that adversity is not a roadblock but a springboard for success. Now, with his IAS dream fulfilled, Ravi is poised to take on the world, and his mother’s unwavering support will always be his greatest strength.
