Emmerdale fans reckon they've "discovered" the identity of Liam Cavanagh's long-lost son, who is already residing in the village.

Liam, the village GP, has been central to some of the soap's most gripping storylines since his debut in 2014.

His daughter Leanna was tragically killed by serial killer Meena Jutla in 2021, and last year he embarked on a relationship with child murderer Ella Forster, before having an affair with his current fiancee, Chas Dingle.

Liam also played a pivotal role in the soap's dramatic limo crash in February, which resulted in the heartbreaking deaths of Leyla Harding, Amy Barton, and Suzy Merton.

Now, according to Leicestershire Live, Emmerdale fans are convinced that Liam will be reunited with an unexpected family member following the arrival of newcomer Lewis Barton, reports Belfast Live.

Lewis made his first appearance last week as Ross Barton's secret half-brother. Prior to his arrival, Moira Dingle found a letter addressed to "The Family of Emma Barton".

Despite her apprehension, Moira informed Ross about the letter and he decided to meet Lewis.

However, he found it difficult to answer Lewis's probing questions about their shared past without revealing the family secrets he's kept hidden for years.

Soap fans will remember that Moira was responsible for Emma's death back in 2017 after the villain kidnapped her baby, Isaac, and taunted her about being a poor mother.

Emmerdale viewers were left reeling as Moira Dingle was accused of playing a part in her daughter Holly Barton's tragic overdose death back in 2016.

In the latest Emmerdale instalment, which aired on Tuesday (May 20) and is now available on ITVX, Emma Barton's secret son Lewis finally came face-to-face with Moira.

As Lewis starts to bond with his newfound relatives, fans are abuzz with theories that he might be Dr Liam Cavanagh's offspring.

Emma's history as a nurse has sparked speculation among the audience that she could have encountered the GP professionally, leading to an unexpected tryst.

On a dedicated Facebook fan page, one viewer posed the question, "Who do you think Lewis's father is?". A fellow fan speculated, "Liam. Emma was a nurse, he could have met her in the medical field through work somehow and had a one night stand?".

Another chimed in with, "That would be nice for Liam if they do that storyline," while someone else expressed enthusiasm, "Love this idea."

Yet another fan pondered, "I think so too but wouldn't he be roughly the same age as Leanna so he'd have to probably been a cheat to produce him and is that really Liam? I could be wrong and they may have a bigger age gap so it could be him."

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
