On Monday's episode of Escape to the Country, presenter Steve Brown was on hand to offer solace to a guest who became visibly moved during the show.

In the recent episode, Steve, aged 43, was introduced to Jane and her daughter Bella, with Jane aiming to move back to Devon where she spent her childhood until the age of 18 in South Devon with her family.

Jane had a clear vision for her new home in Devon, armed with a budget of £425,000; she sought at least two bedrooms, an office space, a quaint garden, parking facilities, proximity to an active church, and easy access to a large village or small town.

Following a tour of several potential homes, Steve engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Jane and Bella about the significance of Jane's decision to relocate, particularly as she was undertaking the journey alone.

Bella heaped accolades on her mother, quipping: "I think having the painful slog of raising me and my sister probably made her strong enough that moving down here it's a quick one! The main thing is packing, that's the worst bit! Hate packing!", reports Devon Live.

When Steve inquired if this represented a "big leap" for Jane, she was overcome with emotion, prompting Steve to apologise, saying: "Sorry, I don't mean to upset you!" to which Jane reassured him: "No, no, you haven't!"

Jane explained her reaction, saying: "It's hearing what Bella's saying!" which led to Bella humorously responding: "Sorry, I'll say horrible things now!" Jane then reflected on her relocation: "It's a fresh start, I'm looking for something new and a new adventure and a new chapter. I just turned 60, now's the time to do it!"

The programme later revealed that both Jane and Bella were thoroughly impressed by the mystery house, captivated by its exquisite stained glass features and historical charm.

Jane was overwhelmed with emotion when discussing the property, confessing: "I'll suck it in! It just looks beautiful and it's different and it's got parking!"

Upon discovering the asking price was £400,000, under her budget, Jane's enthusiasm soared, as she envisioned what she could spend her extra money on.

The touched guest cautioned amid joyous tears: "Here come the tears, tears of happiness!"

When deliberating over their options later on, Jane revealed that the mystery house stood out as her favourite, sharing her intentions to familiarise herself with the locality before proceeding with an offer.

Expressing her hopes for the town to be just right for her, Jane enthused: "I could see myself having a lot of fun living there!" which prompted Steve's heartfelt response: "That is music to my ears!"

Escape to the Country continues on weekdays at 3pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
