The state government has received the Detailed Project Report (DPR) from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for the Mass Rapid Transit Corridor between Koyambedu and Pattabiram (Outer Ring Road).
The planned 21.76-kilometer line would improve connection between important transit hubs and meet the city’s expanding western suburbs’ needs.
K. Gopal, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Special Initiatives, was shown the proposal by M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail, during the DPR submission. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), and other high-ranking officials were with him. The feasibility and economic aspects of expanding the Metro Rail system along this crucial route are assessed in the paper.
With 19 elevated stations and an estimated cost of Rs 9,744 crore, the project would enable smooth daily commuter movement. Before arriving in Pattabiram, the metro line will pass through significant locations including Padi Pudhu Nagar, Mogappair, Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyal, and Avadi.
By connecting important hubs including Ambattur Estate Terminus, Avadi Railway Station, and Avadi Bus Terminus, this line would enhance connection with the city’s larger transit network.

To reduce traffic in the region, three integrated flyovers will be built in front of the Avadi Bus Stand, next to Dunlop, and at the Ambattur Estate bus depot intersection. It is anticipated that this integration would shorten project implementation times and optimize construction costs.
