Mumbai: The MRA Marg Police have arrested the mastermind behind last month’s robbery of an Angadia trader in the CSMT area. The accused, identified as Javed Majeed Shaikh (42), a resident of Panvel in Raigad, was apprehended in Delhi nearly one and a half months after the crime. This marks the third arrest in the case. Earlier, two accused were arrested in Mumbai just a day after the incident, while Shaikh remained on the run. According to the police, he was planning to escape to Kerala from Delhi.

Following the arrest of the first two accused, their interrogation led to the identification of Javed Shaikh as the mastermind. The police launched a manhunt and discovered that he was hiding in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. A special team conducted raids across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab for nearly 10–12 days.

On February 23, 2025, the police received a tip-off that Shaikh was hiding in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area of Delhi and was preparing to flee to Kerala. Acting swiftly, the police laid a trap at the Sarai Kale Khan Bus Stand and apprehended him. Upon his arrest, they recovered ₹4.25 lakh from his possession. He is currently being transported to Mumbai.

The robbery took place on January 6, 2025, at around 10:30 PM. Three employees of an Angadia trader were carrying ₹47 lakh in cash when four armed men followed them near CSMT. The assailants first attempted to snatch the bag, and when they failed, they opened fire, injuring one of the employees.

With the arrest of Javed Shaikh, the police are now working to trace any remaining suspects involved in the case. He will be presented before a court in Mumbai upon his arrival.
