Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to boycott Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the entirety of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025).
No, Ashwin isn’t leaving the franchise. He will continue to play for the Chennai-based outfit, but he has decided not to make any videos about CSK throughout the tournament.

A huge controversy erupted after Ashwin posted a video on his YouTube channel dissecting CSK’s game plan. In the video, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) analyst Prasanna Agoram questioned CSK management’s decision to play Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad over experienced bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin.
The expert’s opinion sparked a huge controversy, with severe backlash coming Ashwin’s way. Following the backlash, the spinner took the video down to avoid any negative attention.

After CSK lost to Delhi Capitals, their third consecutive defeat of the season, reporters asked head coach Stephen Fleming what he thought of Ashwin’s controversial video.
“I have no idea. I didn't even know he had a channel, so I don't know that stuff. That's irrelevant,” Fleming replied.
Ashwin posted a lengthy note on his YouTube channel, declaring that he has decided not to post any videos on his channel about CSK to maintain “the integrity and purpose of the platform”.

“Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season,” read Ashwin’s statement.
“We value the diversity of perspectives that come through on our shows and remain committed to ensuring the conversation stays true to the integrity and purpose of the platform we've established.

“The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin's personal opinions. We appreciate all those who engage thoughtfully with the spirit of the show,” it added.
Chennai Super Kings will play Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8 and 11, respectively.
